Limited Edition Viscosity Collagraph Print 16cm square supplied in off white mount size 30cm square
Calyces, Willowherb and Cashmeriana II 1 of 9 V.E. was made using the viscosity inking method where three inks are added to the collagraph plate before putting through the press. It was based on ideas surrounding “After Strawberry Thief” exhibition in ther Contemporary Gallery at Watts which itself was inspired by William Morris, whose exhibition of wallpaper designs ran concurrently. Becca used Strawberry tops - or calyces - to make flowers in the plate hence the name, with Rosebay Willowherb and Sorbus Cashmeriana leaves also used amongst other garden plants. Other different coloured versions of the Variable Edition are still available. This particular print was a ghost print of print 3 of 9.
The collagraph plates are achieved by layering up materials, and marking and scoring into the plates with found objects from the landscape or personal items of sentimental value: coins from her father's collection are embedded into coastal-themed prints, symbolising hidden treasures and evoking memories of the Cornish coast. Much of Becca’s work is produced using the viscosity inking technique where three inks are put on the same plate at once, a technique developed in the 1950’s. Due to the way the plates are inked all prints are unique even if they use the same colours.
